| Around 98% of ICARDA�s collection is duplicated at other reliable institute/genebanks in �black-boxes� that is only can be accessed by ICARDA;, this is a standard precaution against any natural disasters, fire, wars, or any other threats might be imposed to the genebank and the safety of its content. Because of the efficacy of the approach in saving the collections of some of genebanks, which went through some distractive incidences- e.g. Typhoon Xangsane damaged almost all of the material stored at the National Plant Genetic Resources Laboratory in the Philippines, the restoration of the genebank was only possible because of the safety duplicate-a global facility was created to hold a second back-up of the global collections of the most important food crops. ICARDA already sent around 75% of its collection to Svalbard seed vault, and continuing to send the rest of the material.
